Gun Range Review of Doug’s Shooting Sports
So have you heard all of the advertising on the Radio recently about Doug’s Shoot’n Sports? They’ve been promising a huge stock of firearms and even offering free range use. I was fortunate to make it to Doug’s tonight on their last night of free range time. So I thought I would share my thoughts on the updated range downstairs at Doug’s. First a word about customer service at this Utah Gun Shop.
Customer Service:
Say what you will about customer service at Doug’s but I find that their sales people are knowledgeable, friendly and not too pushy – all of which are nice qualities for the guy behind the counter. I don’t know what it is but I hate waiting for someone to ask me if they can help me. I have walked out of several gun shops without buying a gun that I had intended to buy because no one asked if they could help me. It especially bothers me when I have to ask, “hey, when you get a sec, will you help me with this?” Well, that’s what happened tonight at Doug’s. Someone did finally come, and as I said before, they were nice and helpful.
The Range:
Now, for the review of the new gun range. I have used the Utah Gun Range at Doug’s on several occasions. The work they have done downstairs makes the place look a lot nicer. Come to think of it, I bought my first handgun from Doug’s. While the stairs going down to the range and in need of some work, they still serve their purpose. One nice thing about the Gun Range at Doug’s is the large viewing/waiting area. It’s still rather loud out here but you can at least teach a class or shoot the breeze while you wait. Having this room is a nice feature.
Shooting Lanes:
Once you go inside the range area, there are several stations to select from (I think there were 8 lanes). The only problem I encountered when I got to my lane is that there weren’t any clips to hang my targets. Sure, I’ve shot a few clips on accident, but having some extras down there would have been nice. As you can see from the photos, there is a nice look to the range compared to what it used to be. I was also rather impressed that each of the target movers worked! Last time I went to Doug’s I think I had to move the target by hand. All in all, I had a rather enjoyable experience at the range.
I liked the walls between each of the lanes. The only downside to hard walls that I can I see is that it makes it a little hard for an instructor to see what the student is doing with their hands from an angle – probably not a concern for most folks though. Good work on the range Doug’s! I’ll be going back again. Next time, I hope I don’t have to stand at the glass counter for too long before I can handle some of the goods.
